Parental Commitment

The foundation of family is very important to the community environment at Providence Classical School. The role of the teachers and administration is to come alongside parents in raising and educating their children, not to usurp that role. Therefore, parents are involved in all aspects of the school; from working in the nursery or office to serving on committees and helping with clean-up duties.

One parent is required to serve at least five hours each week in the nursery, or eight hours per week in the office. Many parents also fulfill their hours by teaching one of the elective classes such as art, music or P.E. This service is considered to be part of the school tuition.

Committee assignments are another area where parents are involved in the school. Each family is assigned to a committee at the beginning of the school year. Committees range from planning single events such as Grandparent's Day, the fall or spring campouts, the Father/Daughter banquet and Teacher Appreciation Week, to year-long committees such as Facilities, Marketing and Admissions.

Parents are also periodically called on by teachers to assist in the classroom with special projects or room mother duties. Chaperoning field trips is another way parents can assist the teachers.

PCS is a family commitment, one that involves the parent as well as the student. We firmly believe that God gave the job of educating their children to the parents. To that end, both parents are actively involved in the process.
